An idyllic hub of bright beaches and wide meadows, comprising several smaller towns uniting as one, and the largest in both size and military. The population is proud of its advancements and ambition.
History
Randwell sits atop rich lands and was a cluster of farming communities that grafted together over time. There was another community west of them who challenged the farmers for the chunk of land that held their ports and fishing access. A war raged for it, and Randwell came out on top, absorbing the fallen community into itself in the process. While the community recognized the power they had as a unit, they maintained a mostly peaceful air and continued humble lives, still small enough to be considered a large decentralized town rather than a city.
Then the Flare occurred, and the small government system shifted toward a dictatorship’s approach. A Marked named Regina Berndtsson with just a teensy ounce of a god complex talked her way into power and began to take over various villages and nearby towns, absorbing them into Randwell for their ‘untapped resources’ and ‘the good of the republic’. The town-turned-city grew quickly into its new name, steady leadership bringing into it more places, resources, and opportunities to develop into a place that everyone will love and cherish as their home.
Geography
Considering Randwell resembles more of a town than a city, there's no official or even unofficial seperations of the city like there are in the other city-states. Randwell is all about togetherness, after all-- so there was never any need to divide anything.
Criminal Activity
There are no criminals in the Republic.
As a highly militarized state with Marked Heroes patrolling, overt crimes are punished with over dramatic sentences, the city claims it’s the safest in the Land! The well regulated, authoritarian nature of the city is to thank for the low crime rate, along with government fudging of numbers. However, when you have that many rules, it’s easy to be dissatisfied, and there’s a strong yet secret anti-government rebel faction brewing.
In place of prisons, Randwellian labor camps are meant to ‘instill responsibility that clearly has been lost, enable a reflection on one’s actions, and to ‘benefit those who may have been hurt by the offender’s actions’. This is often enforced through 'character building services' such as manual labor. Haircuts and uniforms are mandatory and the same for all genders, because criminals don't conform, but if you fit yourself as an ideal member of society, "you'll become one!"
Marked Sentiment
Marked are seen as some of the most important people in society. They’re required to go into service for at least two years in the army, though it’s seen as a privilege and an honor to serve the city, and many become career soldiers aka HEROES! Marked can develop a complex similar to their Premiere, thanks to constant praise and benefits given to them for their ability. The regulations are decent and sensible, and to follow the rules is a near universal agreement. No need to mess up a good thing with power abuse.
Stance on Superheroes
The best of the enlisted Marked are given the opportunity to be heroes, and either work solo or join hero teams funded by the government. There’s lots of media and stories about how enviable the position is, and how important it is to protecting the country. The best heroes can even influence the government. Randwellian heroes are seen as more superior to heroes from anywhere else, in both morals and skill. In fact, outside heroes are not allowed to operate in the city without explicit permission. The Republic believes heroes should inspire people, first and foremost.
Culture
Randwell cuisine is known for the freshest and most delicious of ingredients, being a largely agriculture based city. The city has also experimented with genetically engineering food for tasty new varities. Randwell also loves cheese. They have perfected a variety of esoteric cheesemaking techniques, each more complicated and time-consuming than the last. Homecooked meals and Sunday dinners are an important part of the culture.
In Randwell, superstition is taken very seriously. Each of the small communities inside Randwell often have their own specific taboos, on top of everything else. Stepping on a crack in pavement, exiting a door backwards, seeing a completely white cow, spilling salt, sneezing during complete silence, etc. In order to try and undo bad luck, you must knock on metal of some kind three times. Most of these “bad luck” curses come from wasting things or bad social habits.
Randwell's favorite pasttime is farmwork and spending time with the family. They also enjoy beach volleyball and horseback riding.
What better holiday could Randwell have than to celebrate the birth of the greatest Premiere ever? Parades, traditional dances, and theatrical recounts of Regina’s life up to today are held throughout the city on Regina Aquamarina Berndtsson Day. All the smaller communities in Randwell contribute by making art that they believe represents the spirit and unity of Randwell. Regina herself hosts short videos broadcasted throughout the city, thanking everyone for their continued support of both her and each-other.
Intercity Relations
Apopka Lights
Very good relations here. We both sure do love propaganda branding fun things to our citizens!
Cytopia
Joint hands in pushing for the advancement of humanity. Randwell has offered many funds and resources in exchange for their cool technology and machine plans. Pats on the back for these helpful folk.
Draywood
So much land there and so little done with it. Surely the betterment of society deserves a few sacrifices? Like uuuuh some wandering kids for instance some loose scientific materials!
New Chiti
Thanks for the weaponry, you poor little thing you. Supporting New Chiti’s factories is the least Randwell can do to help <3.
