Synopsis
Starlets Sisyphus, The Clockwork Owl, Sam “Midas” Aurelius, T-9204, Flick Sinclair, Lluvia “Teeth” Willowherbs, and Jerry are tasked with stealing and retrieving CY-009 research materials from the mansion of Randwellian supervillain and mad scientist Dr. Chimera.
Is explained that the cases must be stolen, not destroyed, so that Dr. Chimera’s intentions and possible modifications to the research materials can be discovered, and so that the cases can be handed over to Cytopian authorities so the destruction can be acknowledged, and Cytopia does not continue to search for missing CY-009 materials. After a good amount of team bickering, the starlets head to Randwell, driven in a truck by Monty since the on-base teleporter, Maram, is injured.
As the starlets approach Dr. Chimera’s mansion, they find it rather eccentric, or in other words, extremely fucking dangerous. The starlets need to sneak past a dog seven times their size (“Fum”), avoid various booby traps such as swinging axes in the hallways, and solve various puzzles in order to make progress in the exploration of the badass mansion. They also find some cool shit, and a locked computer with the password of “Dr. Chimera’s favorite pets."
The team eventually finds their way to an awesome fake beach, in which they are accosted by an army of giant rats (“Phi”) led by a floating cat with a snake tail (“Phee”). Multiple starlets are injured and nearly drown, but the cat is killed and the rest of the threats are dealt with, with Flick talking to the rats and finding out they were under mind control, and then taking them with him. The party is also helped massively by T-9204, who activated their On Reveal, making them briefly be controlled by a mod, making them significantly more competent but also significantly more violent, most notably killing one of the rats gruesomely after they were no longer a threat. T9 does not explain this, and after some dog-tag finangling, the team makes its way into the basement, the last unexplored area aside from the locked lab.
The starlets get into a scuffle with the last of Dr. Chimera’s favorite pets, a wicked ape who tries to kill them. Also, a clone of Dr. Chimera is down here, which Jerry decapitates to retrieve the eye of for a retinal scanner and also because he’s fucked up. After killing the winged ape, they find out that its name is Foe, and thus are able to complete the computer password and get into the locked laboratory. Teeth also takes a hard drive with a copy of the information on the computer.
Here’s where stuff gets serious. The starlets ask the computer system controlling the lab to unlock hazardous material chambers containing the CY-009 cases, which works fine, and the samples are retrieved. Except also, due to trolling, the computer turns on them, and begins to initiate a lockdown. Flick, somehow, has an override disc that allows him to take control of the system––turns on the rest of the team, demanding they leave at least one case in Randwell. T9 also turns on the team, activating his On Reveal again, and destroying two cases. Flick uses the lab’s security system to attempt to fire on multiple starlets. T9 fires at Jerry, attempting to destroy the third case which he possesses, but misses and hits Teeth instead. Then T9 fires on Flick, but misses. Then tries again. And again, until T9 succeeds a spirit check to regain control––and in Flick’s constant, and frankly extremely impressive dodges, he drops the security system controls, and they break. The starlets make their way out of the house, with a single case in tow, and embark on an extremely awkward four hour truck drive home. The Main Objective is a failure, but the Bonus Objective is a success.
As the starlets are treated for the horrific injuries they received during the mission, Flick reveals that he is not a veteran nor defector from Randwell, but a draft dodger, who was caught and now is being forced to serve his mandatory two years of military service, and was under orders to ensure that at least some CY-009 materials stayed in Randwell. Flick and T9 both lament being unable to escape the control of a higher entity, Flick's being the Randwellian government and T9’s being the Cytopian government. Sisyphus, the mission leader, attempts to provide a solution he hopes will satisfy both Flick and T9: that being, returning a fake copy of the CY-009 materials for Flick to take home, and destroying the third case of CY-009 after Oscar has gotten everything she wants out of it.
