Whatever It Fakes is the third issue in the PENTANARCHY line. Villains Inc is falling, and it's up to our Starlets to steal an immensely important file from them before Cytopian police raid the facility. The group must disguise as themselves as ordinary Vinc employees, slip past every measure of security they have, open the way towards the objective without any issue, take it, and leave before things get nasty.
Oscar called for absolute care on this mission, but many of our Starlets have other plans. Villains Inc is a goldmine of information, and the cast picked isn't likely to just walk away from that. Project loyalty is tested, and its only a matter of time before that countdown becomes a race. Who falls first? Villains inc? Or our very own squad?
Synopsis
Starlets Agent Cancer, T-9204, REMIX, Georgy Joy, and Ripley Pond arrive at the bridge to receive a mission briefing— expecting the last starlet Lady Blanche to be there, they instead find Caelin Katze, saying Blanche called out sick and she’s replacing them. Oscar gets sick of her game and calls her out— it's then revealed that Lady Blanche is Caelin Katze, and that Blanche’s mark is actually complete shapeshifting.
Once that’s out of the way, Oscar gives them the mission low-down: they have to infiltrate the inscrutable Villains Inc. and steal a marked file before a police raid captures the building. The plan was simple: the team would break into two groups. Squad A, REMIX, Georgy Joy, and T9 would be escorting T9 as their quarry to the interrogation room. Squad B, Lady Blanche, Ripley Pond, and Agent Cancer, would make their way up to the intel hub to shut off the relevant cameras. From the interrogation room, the first group would be able to sneak into the archives room from the vents and let the second group in to find the file as quickly as possible. Armed with fake Villains Inc IDs and disguises made by Lady Blanche, the team departs.
Now at Villains Inc, Squad A entered through the reception area first. They got a pat down, and when REMIX was discovered carrying zero weapons, the guards got suspicious, but REMIX was able to talk their way out of it. The receptionist was also suspicious of T9’s augmentation, and sent a technician to sit in on their Next, Squad B tried to enter through the reception check point, but Ripley Pond’s ID wasn’t swiping through. Cancer made an odd hand signal, and the lady let them through, though confiscating Ripley’s ID.
Squad A makes it down to the interrogation chamber, only to find that the room they have booked for them is occupied, the previous interrogation having run long. They needed that exact room, though, to access the vents, so they tried finding a way to get them out. REMIX tried to use their mark to teleport the interrogatee out and say that ‘look, they’re getting away, better go catch them’ but that didn’t work. So they instead used their Mark to teleport the agents out of the room, too, and quickly head in and shut the door behind them.
Squad B made it up to the intel hub and Cancer told the people that were watching the cameras to go take 5. The group left, but they stopped to question Ripley. Cancer is able to shut off the cameras in the meanwhile. When asking to see his ID, Ripley said that it was confiscated for not working and that Blanche was his escort. One of the group said they could take Ripley to get a new ID, and the team obliges. He takes him to the stairwell to take him down one flight, but soon the guy turns on Ripley and punches him. Ripley is quickly able to get the upper hand and knock him out, before the other two come to his assistance. They elect to hide the body in a closet on an office floor and then make their way down to the mailroom and archives from there. While doing this, though, Blanche separates from the party.
Squad A knocks out the technician with them, says their real names around them, and doesn’t take their watch when they leave through the vents. They quickly head to the mailroom, and T9 lets everyone enter first. And after they’ve all dropped down through the vents and enter the archives— T9 leaves them, continuing through the vents.
Squad B, now down Blanche, is locked in an office floor without any way to get to the archives. Cancer and Ripley make it to his old desk, and find a file for him. It details that his real identity is Dylan Copperfield, Martin Copperfield’s son, and the rightful heir to Villains Inc. should anything happen to Martin. When Code 1116 is invoked, says the file, Dylan becomes the High Boss and has full clearance to Villains Inc. Also included in this file was a completely red card that granted them access to any floor. Before they left to go to the archives, though, they heard an audible crunch in an office, and went to investigate. It turned out to be T9, having just killed some Villains Inc goon.
Ripley follows T9 as he continues through the vents to the archives, and Cancer uses the keycard to get down there. Soon after the team (save for Blanche and Cancer) were reunited in the archives, an alarm started going off in the entire building. They quickly searched the archives room as fast as they could, but soon were overwhelmed by guards. T9 activated his On Reveal ability, which allows the Dealers to take over his character. T9 quickly began killing a bunch of guards indiscriminately, and then advocated for leaving without the file. T9 succeeded in a spirit check to regain control, but still they were being overwhelmed by guards and needed to leave. Without any dark place for Maram to teleport them out, they relied on REMIX’s powers. But Georgy refused to leave, going so far as to pull a gun on her own teammates. Cancer tackles her through the portal before she can do any real damage, and then everyone follows.
Everyone gets back to base besides Blanche (who says she’s fine, she used her ability to just leave the mission anyway) and REMIX. Everyone assumes the worst and thinks REMIX is dead, but soon they teleport in, riddled in bullet holes.
