The Changeling

The Changeling, also known as #194, is a fictional Apopkan superhero featured in the guerilla alternate-reality game EYEVOTED. She is a very accomplished hero who, prior to her recruitment by the EYEVOTED project, supposedly foiled a plot to destroy the entirety of Apopka Lights. Beyond that, her motivations and connections are currently unknown.

Appearances

The Changeling first appeared in EYEDROP 3 as #194, with the following introductory puzzle:

I know they get a bad wrap, but she's actually used her two-faced nature to foil the felling of the stars.

The Changeling placed first in the fan poll, and her name and backstory were subsequently featured in EYEDROP 4 along with Valerie (#189). In her profile, it was revealed that her "Ruinous Rumor" discussed their past "single-handedly" saving "all of" Apopka Lights from destruction by an unknown threat.

Speculation

The Changeling's introductory puzzle appears to indicate that she uses she/they pronouns. While it is widely accepted that the primary backstory display reflects the top-placing character of the EYEVOTED fan poll, the secondary character's placement remains uncertain. As a result, while many fans speculate that Valerie (#189) placed second in the poll, others believe that their simultaneous appearance in EYEDROP 4 indicates some connection between the two recruits. Valerie's "track record of vicinal villainy" has also led to speculation that Valerie either corrupted the Changeling or attempted to do so, but was instead drawn towards heroism.

The Changeling's "two-faced nature," emphasized in EYEDROP 3, is also the subject of spirited fan debate. While some believe that this indicates that the Changeling is a shapeshifter, fan depictions of her occasionally take a more literal interpretation akin to Janus (the deity, not the commercial software). Regardless, it is clear that whatever capabilities she possesses, the Changeling is very strong, and they are usually speculated to have an Opera or Tenet-level Mark.

Constance Cuculida, also known as The Changeling, is actually from Cytopia. She is a villain with the Mark "Understudy," which allows her to psychically reinforce any emotional vulnerabilities necessary to ensure that people believe she is whoever she introduces herself as. Because it affects her as much as any other target, she is mistaken about her own capabilities and believes that she can resurrect people from the dead by serving as a temporary vessel. Her upbringing, in which she works for her father in Cytopia with extremely limited access to external media, no Internet access, and contact only with him and his clients, has severely limited her understanding of social cues and knowledge of the world.

Constance maintains a notebook, in which she lists information about herself, other starlets, and anything else she may need to remember due to the memory-affecting impacts of Understudy. While she is permitted to bring it on field missions, she may not leave base with it due to the amount of sensitive information it contains. Several measures on the Project exist to protect other starlets from her, including a note on her file to be extremely cautious when revealing information such as names around her. She has, on several occasions, psychically impersonated other starlets (including the late Morrow).

Relationships

CHARACTER RELATIONSHIP
Mr. Mateo An out-of-touch administrator who just doesn't understand what she needs. She appreciates the ride home, but taking away her notebook in the middle of the memorial was so distressing to her that it replays in her head every time she thinks about talking to him.
Ms. Remilia The only person she's ever openly disliked. They have nothing in common, nothing to speak about, and nothing to learn from each other. She hates the way Remilia claims to be non-human, the way she's obsessed with herself, the way she's so detached from everything around her, her glasses, her constant skeevy offers to help people... what? No, they're nothing alike!
Mx. Ditto Someone who almost understands.
Mr. Hoover A man with far, far better taste in glasses than in nicknames. She didn't get to see him do much during the mission, but she's a little jealous of how much time he's spent with Ripley Pond.
Ms. Jabberwocky A kindred spirit, a possible friend, a suspected cult leader, and a source of fascinating information about the celestial bodies that nobody else seems to know. The Changeling truly isn't sure what to make of this little lady yet.
Mr. Sisyphus A true professional with exciting ideas regarding her potential on the Project. The Changeling has a great deal of respect for him. Maybe when she can fire a gun, she'll even be able to impress him.
Dr. Solomon A very good doctor with an understanding for the Changeling's needs, even if he seems a little afraid of her true capabilities. She hopes he knows there can still be doctors even in a world without death.
Mx. Mantle The first person on the Project she really helped, even if Mx. Mantle can't see it yet. In time, maybe they'll come to understand each other outside of Morrow's shadow. In the meantime, her opinions about Mx. Mantle could fill a whole other notebook.
Mx. Cupid The Changeling appreciates Mx. Cupid's kindness and generosity, and finds them to be a glimmering symbol of Apopkan heroism. It wants to impress them, or at least remain in their good graces, ever since they gave it a book of brain teasers.
Ms. RAzZMATAZZ A good friend and excellent roommate, RAzZMATAZZ has been teaching the Changeling so much... about video games and killing time. She's fun.
Sir An honorific, typically masculine, used in formal situations and to describe the Project's other biggest crossword fiend.
Mr. Pond An icon. An idol. An inspiration. She returned him from the dead, remade him in her image, and was remade in his. They have so much to learn from one another.
Dr. Shimizu Another non-human sent by the Project to die. The Changeling was lucky enough to survive. Why did she make it where Dr. Shimizu failed? The question tortures her and the injustice boils her blood. But there's a way to make things right.
