Black Mantle
Black Mantle is a villain from Draywood. Very little is known about it aside from the dramatic way their killings play out in broad daylight. The true number of people slain by Black Mantle is unknown, though Mantle has publicly slain five people in the eight months since their break onto the scene in September of 2080.
Career
Black Mantle's career as a villain began in earnest when BULLET was slain on 8 September 2080 after BULLET left a grocery store after checking out, despite not engaging in villain activity at the time. After disemboweling the man, Black Mantle disappeared, leaving police to piece together the identity of the victim. Black Mantle evaded arrest before killing again a month later, this time targeting O.O. as she was on the way to a house party. Similar fates befell The Arboreal Arbiter, The Mason, and Crabapple.
Black Mantle's killings, despite happening seemingly at random, always involve only one person. Civilians and heroes that attempt to intervene have never been seriously harmed by Black Mantle. However, the senseless violence that has quickly branded them a villain.
Abilities and Equipment
Black Mantle's Mark is called Tools of the Trade, which allows them to create a scythe out of an iridescent pink 'light'. From the way it swings it around, it seems like it has mass, though nobody has really gotten quite close enough to check.
Trivia
- Black Mantle's name is derived from the failed clones of Sephiroth in Final Fantasy 7. The way she laughs, her obsession with Reunion, and even killing in service of a "Mother", are further references to FF7.
