Yawen Cao was an Apopkan kingpin and founder of the Star's Heights Casino in Apopka Lights. She was the first head of The World's Deck, an Apopkan crime syndicate.
Career
Origins
Cao began her career in Apopka Lights in 1974 as a small business owner, inheriting and managing the previously-unpopular club Star's Dancefloor, which became popular with Apopkan tourists and locals under her management. She became a small but notable name in the local area due to this position of ownership, and well-respected in the area. Star's Dancefloor closed down in 1984, being renovated into the Star's Heights Casino.
The World's Deck
In 1984, four years after The Flare (during which she became Marked) Cao opened the Star's Heights Casino, a casino in Apopka Lights, beginning with just one floor and organising the gradual construction of the skyscraper as the business grew. It's also believed that The World's Deck formed around this time, springing from the first patrons of the casino and the original patrons of the Star's Dancefloor club. This is Cao's most notable achievement, and her most long-running business venture, having persisted long after her death. She became known both as an incredibly savvy businesswoman and a ruthless kingpin, skyrocketing the Star's Heights into being one of Apopka's most successful casinos.
Assassination
Cao was assassinated in 2012, in a still-unclaimed sniper attack on the Star's Heights Casino. She was the only casualty. The business was inherited by her daughter, Guiying Cao.
Personal Life
Cao married in 1978, to Apopkan businessman Corneille Cao (née Desrosiers). She firmly believed in matrilineal primogeniture, and had one daughter, Guiying (who inherited her business ventures as the oldest female child), and one son, Zhi (who, as the youngest and a male, never inherited the company, and instead started an Apopkan record label).
Abilities and Gear
Cao was marked by The Flare in 1980, which granted her a Mark she originally called 'Vampiric Compulsion', but later renamed 'The House Always Wins'. This Mark gave Cao hypnotic suggestion over those who entered a space the target considered her domain, the exact extent and strength of which has become obscured with time. She utilised this ability within the organisation and operation of The World's Deck and Star's Heights Casino, to influence and sway both other mob leaders and gambling patrons.
