What Goes Up… is the seventh issue in the PENTANARCHY line. Aided by the previous mission’s success our starlets venture into the underground depths of New Millennium Park in search of a new moon able to globally control all machines. Their journey leads them to discovering an underground society solely composed of animatronics and led by Melty Mouse and friends.
After suffering through Web Monkey’s torture cubes, defacing said monkey, and retracing their steps, the starlets acquire enough information to discover the true culprit behind the moon’s creation: Doroteya Dog and her group of like-minded robots yearning to live equally and free of forced subservience for their kind. The starlets argue with Doroteya which leads to an overwhelmed Jabberwocky increasing in size to dangerous degree, the ground above them beginning to cave in. Ayhan Solak sacrifices herself to give the other starlets time to escape the collapsing area and rush back through the tunnels back aboveground to be retrieved by Maram.
Synopsis
Starlets Rattrap, Ayhan, Jabberwocky, Jerry, Tyff and Sightline arrive at the bridge at 8PM for their briefing. They’re given the objective to find the electronic-controlling moon and put a stop to its construction as well as filling out a signature booklet with as many mascots and characters as possible. Thanks to the previous successes of the HAGS mission the current starlets are given easy access to the underground with Kenisha Roelof’s handprint stored inside a glove, allowing them to bypass New Millennium’s biolocks to their non-guest facilities.
The starlets arrive at New Millennium Park one hour before closing and spend some time enjoying park amenities. Once the park shuts down they find separate places to hide from the guards doing their final sweeps. In Kidtopia Jabberwocky hides amongst a box of dolls.
Slightly frightened, Jabberwocky grows big enough to be spotted by a guard who mistakes her for a child and attempts to escort her back to the front of the park. Ayhan pretends to be Jabberwocky’s worried guardian, distracts enough for Jerry to emerge and choke out the guard. With that all the starlets are in the clear to emerge from their hiding spots and congregate. Sightline fails to appear with the rest of the group, but they press on regardless.
Maram teleports the group’s supplies and the special glove into the park for them. The group collects their tools and heads to the employee only area and uses the special glove to reveal an elevator in the middle of the Centennial Square hedge maze down to the underground areas of the park. When the elevator opens the starlets are met with brightly lit long tunnels and a few rooms scattered within. There’s a high-tech workshop missing many of its tools, a prop room filled with parts from around the park, and a surveillance room looking over the park proper. Jerry takes a look and realizes that CITTA seems to still be consuming power despite being off above-ground. The group concludes on heading southeast in CITTA’s direction. Sightline is able to reconnect and join them there via a different elevator. Jerry finds a button hidden behind a panel in the elevator and when pushed the button takes them farther down beneath CITTA.
After a long ride the group finds themself face to face with a swarm of scared NMP animatronics. An eight feet tall Melty Millennium Mouse pushes forward and tries to calm the other animatronics down while they talk with the group, whom Jerry also gets a signature from in the process. Melty questions the starlets, who try and claim to be investors being taken around the place by security. Doroteya Dog, emerging from the back of the animatronic group, doesn’t buy this thanks to the starlets’ collective weapons. Springer Rabbit, who stays behind the animatronic swarm, also notes that none of the individuals here are not NMP investors.
Ayhan and Jabberwocky do their best to explain, with Jabberwocky taking the lead to ask about the new moon and express a fear of the animatronics getting hurt by it. None of the animatronics seem to recognize what’s being discussed, and Melty tries to reassure her that their underground home is safe and meant for animatronics to play and live together within.
The talk of the moon does make Springer and Melty point to Web Monkey as the possible culprit for this supposed moon, noting his frequent absences at the town meetings. The starlets ask to meet Web and Melty points them in his direction. With one last warning on not hurting Web the starlets head off into the tunnel leading to the monkey robot’s hideaway.
Upon arriving the starlets can see something large being built in Web’s cluttered hideout, but before they can fully examine it Web emerges and traps them in cubes to complete violent games for his amusement. All but Jerry get captured, and Jerry tries to scout for Web in the dark while the other starlets suffer through random trials. Eventually Jerry is able to spot and bash in Web’s face with a hammer, making the monkey fall to the floor. Sightline’s torture cube tries to rush away just as Ayhan and Jabberwocky are released from theirs with minimal injury, and Jabberwocky’s frustrations allow her to grow big and catch Sightline’s cube before it can leave Web’s lair. Web is captured by Jerry before he can complete an escape. Web calls for a time out and asks what they want from him. Ayhan and Jerry explain and threaten respectively, with Web confessing he was building a mech and not the moon at all. He claims ‘she’ asked him to look at some schematics for said moon, but shuts down before he’s able to explain any further.
The starlets head back to the main square and find that Doroteya and a chunk of the animatronics that were originally there have left. Melty voices concern at everyone’s injuries and asks if Web’s okay, to which Ayhan claims there was a collapse that injured them all within Web’s hideout. Springer goes to check on Web under Melty’s request. Melty says Doroteya returned to the square with her league of animatronics. Springer returns with Web’s busted body in hand and declares the starlets killed Web, making the remaining non-flagship animatronics become hostile. The starlets rush back to the elevator they came down on and head back up to the area near Centennial Square. They retrace their steps and find that some of the things in the prop room have been moved around, items on a shelf now fallen to the floor. Moving the shelf reveals a large and dark and bare tunnel. Waiting for them at the end is a cavernous and chilly space shaped like a dome. The moon, being assembled in pieces, is here.
Doroteya speaks up from behind them, her animatronics at her side, and explains that she is the one creating the moon under New Millennium Park. She intends to free machines from the control of humans, giving them free will to choose to work with them or not, an attempt at granting machines and humanity a sense of equality. Ayhan reasons with Doroteya, while Jerry continuously verbally lashes out at Doroteya, riling up the animatronics and destabilizing Jabberwocky. She starts growing larger and the animatronics attempt to rush toward her to keep her away from breaking any moon bits. Ayhan is caught in Jabberwocky’s embrace. Jerry attempts to protect Jabberwocky, causing a full fight to break out. Rattrap attempts to join the fight and finds themself frozen, Doroteya having used a Device she brought to stop Rattrap and reveal that their body is in fact mechanical and being controlled by a Marked rat inside.
Jabberwocky continues to grow and begins pressing into the ceiling. Doroteya shouts that they are no longer under the park and are under the city. Jerry successfully gets the Device from Doroteya and freezes the attacking robots. At the same time, Ayhan realizes the ceiling’s imminent collapse and uses the last of her Mark’s abilities to buy time for the other starlets to escape from the moon and back through the tunnel to New Millennium Park. The act unfortunately proves a fatal one. Jabberwocky shrinks down in grief and carries her body out. The remaining starlets move stealthily to avoid the angry animatronics that remain and head back to the earlier rendezvous point in the park to be picked up by Maram.
