Mercury, aka Mitsu Nomura or Hermes is a messenger, revolutionary, and dubiously both a hero and villain from the Republic of Randwell. Originally, under the hero mantle of Hermes, Nomura worked as a messenger spreading the word of Randwell to smaller villages and towns who weren't officially part of the republic. However, it was revealed that they were actually the masked anti-Randwellian rebellion leader Mercury from the small nearby city of Orisa. They are one of the survivors of Penumbra's Parley Massacre.

Career

The messenger position that Hermes filled was invented specifically for Mitsu Nomura and their particular mark when they were twelve years old after they expressed interest in proving themself useful to the Randwellian cause. Using kind words from their higher ups, they were sent into territories that were on the fence about joining the Republic, using the good healing feelings and their cherubic personality to sway these civilians in Regina's favor.

Four years after Hermes's rise to diplomacy, the Republic finally sent Mitsu to rebelling towns. When healing words weren't enough, Randwell supplied them with just as many harmful remarks in order to show off the power of the Republic.

Their alter-ego Mercury rose to power in the rebel city of Orisa, working alongside a handful of other rebels and the recently escaped Randwellian prisoner Palloma Morales. Dawning a paper bag over their head, Mitsu used this identity to undo what they had done as Hermes in the daytime and used their insider knowledge to plan targeted attacks against Randwellian efforts in the smaller city. When suspicions started arising that Hermes and Mercury were too similar for it to be a coincidence, the Republic banned Hermes from entering the territory again for a year, during which Mitsu started their mandatory service in the Randwellian military before their invitation to the Parley.

Since the Massacre, they've gone into hiding, but it can be assumed they're not finished with their work just yet.

Personal Life

Mitsu is the child of Hisoka and Chiyo Nomura, the former of whom is a longtime member of the Republic's military. Despite the man's dedication, he hasn't seen much career advancement due to being unmarked. It's unclear how the Nomura family is taking the disappearance of their child.

Abilities and Gear

Mitsu's mark Sticks and Stones allows them to take words that they hear and repeat them to get a desired effect, but not without enduring the effect themself first. Words said with ill intent, no matter how sweet sounding, cause varying degrees of harm while words said with good intent, no matter how unkindly phrased, can heal to varying degrees depending on the intensity with which they are meant. Neutral statements and statements that someone doesn't actually mean produce no effect. They are only able to invoke their mark's powers with their own words when feeling an overwhelming amount of emotion themself and, once used, it will take most of their energy, usually leading them to pass out.
