Early life
Leonard Marcus Callahan was born January 29th, 2050 in the Empress borough of New Chiti. Callahan was raised in a commune among several other children. While he assumed both his mother and father were among them, he never knew their true identities, which he has stated had never bothered him.
Callahan's early life was insulated, as both his schooling and social life was almost entirely kept within the bounds of the commune. Using his mark, "The Grass Is Always Greener", Callahan aided in the upkeep of the commune's community gardens, as well as cooking for its members.
Following a firebombing incident in 2067, Callahan left his commune and traveled around New Chiti, performing odd jobs and unlawful activities in exchange for temporary housing. While he would occasionally lend a hand to a New Chitian gang, Callahan has stated that he never joined a gang prior to his involvement with the Lionfish Brigade.
Gang involvement
Not much is known about Callahan's involvement with the Lionfish Brigade due to the sequestered nature of its inner workings. Callahan has reported in several interviews that he was drawn to the gang due to "what [he] presumed to be shared ideas" between himself and Mika Hamasaki, its leader. He joined in 2077 as one of the Lionfish Brigade's first members, and quickly rose to the rank of vice admiral. Callahan's full list of alleged crimes has never been stated publicly by either himself or news outlets.
Public speaking career
Following his release in 2081, Callahan made several appearances at low-income New Chitian schools as a public speaker, often with parole officers present. His speeches often revolve around the dangers of gang involvement, and involve several anecdotes about his upbringing. Callahan's speeches are the medium through which the public has learned the most about the Lionfish Brigade and how it operates. While many New Chiti schools have banned Callahan from speaking on their premises due to his multiple criminal offenses, other districts praise his oratory skills and his "ability to reach even the most distant child". Callahan has made a few attempts to visit schools in affluent areas of Draywood, but the noticeable pushback from the general populace has kept him in New Chiti.
Legal issues
2079: Murder trial and acquittal
In the midst of Operation Dionaea, Callahan was arrested and charged with six counts of first-degree murder. Callahan was serving as the vice admiral of The Lionfish Brigade at the time, and was the highest-ranking member of the gang to be arrested. Over the course of his criminal trial, Callahan's charges were amended to instead consist of three counts of accessory to murder and one count of terrorism, due to the dubious nature of his previous charges having occurred in international waters. Callahan was to serve eight years in prison, but was released two years into his sentence for good behavior.
2081: Trespassing
Following his release from prison, Callahan was arrested and detained over several alleged trespassing incidents in and around Draywood's Royal Quarter. Callahan pleaded not guilty despite the evidence presented, and was acquitted on March 5th, 2081.
